PLEASE HELP US
Carlsbad NM - 25 Shar-Pei seized

Carlsbad New Mexico Animal Control division received a tip about dogs being kept in the house without proper food or water. Officers found 26 dogs: 25 Shar-Pei - 13 being puppies - and 1 pug living in horrendous conditions.  The dogs were malnourished, with sores on their feet and many other impairing health issues due to the poor living conditions.

Christmas and a bright future came early on December 23rd when 18 of the Shar-Pei made the long trip to Texas where they are now resting and receiving the care they need with NASPR.  There are plans for the remaining 5 dogs to come into NASPR’s care as soon as transport and foster can be arranged later this week.

It has been a very challenging year with Shar-Pei in need at an all-time high and a drop in donations.  Because of your support, we didn’t think twice when we were called on to help these Shar-Pei but we can’t do it alone.  Donations are needed to help with general care (food, vaccinations, wormer, medicines, heartworm testing etc) as well as spay/neuters when health permits.  Donations are also needed for eye tacking, entropion surgery and possible heartworm treatment if needed.  Foster homes are desperately needed or donations can be made to help with boarding until foster homes can be found.

Thanks to the hard work of the Carlsbad NM Animal Control Officers,  the wonderful staff at Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary in Carlsbad NM and our dedicated NASPR volunteers, this has been a true Christmas miracle.  Help us make the coming New Year a new start to the life they deserve.

With just one day left for Santa Paws to finalize his Christmas flight he received an urgent update...25 shar pei in New Mexico needed his help.  He quickly checked his lists and sure enough ALL 25 were one the "NICE List", unlike their owner who was at the very top of his "Naughty List".  With the help of his NASPR Elves in Texas, he was able to provide all their Christmas wishes...clean warm bedding in loving and caring foster care, vet care for all their medical needs, unlimited quality food with lots of treats and the promise of a future where all these things would be provided for them with a FOREVER family that would love and cherish them.

As holidays go it was a grand success.  New Year brought many interested families and as Valentine's Day rolled around many of the 25 had found their homes.  Cupid must of been a bit jealous of all the praise Santa Paws was receiving and worked a little magic of his own.  The day before Valentine's Day, Shyloh surprised everyone by giving birth to (5) beautiful, healthy shar pei...all of which are now adopted into loving families.

Shyloh is still hoping and waiting for her perfect family. She is healthy, happy and well mannered.  Originally she was a very "shy" girl as were the others from NM.  Now she is outgoing, affectionate and can't wait to learn new things.  She explores the world with the wonder of a pup, seeing all its marvels with a cautious yet excited attitude.  Shyloh is spayed, has had entropion surgery, is current on vaccinations and greets trustworthy people with a smile (which sparkles thanks to her teeth being cleaned).  She is crate trained, loves to ride in the car, is well behaved on lead and has NEVER had an accident inside.  She is dog friendly, good with children and has a very loving and gentle nature.  She weighs 42 pounds and is believed to be approx. 3 years old.

Holidays seems to have played a huge part in the fate of these NM dogs, so Shyloh and NASPR are hoping that with the 4th of July approaching, that Uncle Sam will be working a little magic of his own and help her find her forever family.

If you would like to be a part of the "magic" by being Shyloh's forever family please complete the adoption application.

Meet Amy!!!!

Amy is a very sweet and energetic cream Shar-Pei.  She’s @ 1-2  year olds and weighs about 35 lbs. She is current on shots, heart worm negative, walks great on a leash and is house broken. She gets along with her foster Brothers, loves to play “NASCAR chase” around the house  and LOVES her stuffies and bones. Like the song by Pure Prairie League goes:  Amy….. whatcha gonna do, I think I could stay with you for awhile maybe longer if I do……. Falling in and out of love with you ……

You will definitely FALL IN LOVE when you meet this AMY!!!!!

MASSEY

Massey first came into rescue on Christmas Eve of 2010.  A large animal control seizure in a neighboring state had her headed for Texas with 2 dozen of her best dog buddies, all Shar Pei.  Upon arrival Massey was quite unsocialized and seemed to be frightened and unsure of almost everything!  Apparently she had never been in a home, had a family of her own, or even walked on a lead.  But in the new year ahead all of that was getting ready to change!

Massey went into a foster home and began her total makeover.  Immunizations and spay surgery were done first.  With those out of the way, we then discovered she was indeed heartworm positive.   Her heartworm treatment was completed in the next two months and after a little rest she is now an energetic, happy girl who loves to be petted.   Her personality has blossomed and her playful side emerged as she likes to play with other friendly dogs.  A very Happy New Year and a wonderful outcome for Massey who is now healthy and available for adoption!
